Van’s Lesley

•January 23, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I’m a notorious flat wearer not wearing practical shoes.  The new Lesley’s by Vans combine sportiness with the look of a flat.  They’re a little steep at $45 but I’m hoping they’re at a Van’s Outlet…until then enjoy the pics.

Kmart

The cold and stormy weather has left me with time to do some mundane tasks- sorting through magazines, cleaning through my desk… things I’ve been putting off and have been accumulating faster than dust bunnies.  I was doing some on-line browsing while taking a break and went on to Kmart’s website.  I know,  I know, many don’t look to Kmart as the epicenter of style but they have some really cute stuff at affordable prices. Check out this Ikat-like print tank top for only $4.98.  I love Ikat print and this tank top is great, comes in two colors, blue and lilac. Enough procrastination… back to organizing.

The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse

I’m a nitorious pack rat and have done multiple promotions that have left me with left over materials.  I love the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse (www.creativereuse.org) located on 4695 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland.  The materials you donate are put to a good use and is reincarnated in a creative medium.  Also, their store has a wealth of resources for any and all art or DIY projects you’d like to tackle.  I highly reccomend donating and/or patronizing this local non-profit.

$3 Garage Sale Find

This weekend I came across a garage sale in my neighborhood and picked up these great plates for $3.  They’re supposed to be artichoke plates (and the small cup is supposed to hold the butter) but I thought they were pretty plates and I liked the artichokey/floral design of them.  The lady who sold them to me said they had never been used and were from Nieman Marcus from the 60’s.

More Mural Art

•January 14, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I’ve been massively electronically cluttered in the past couple of years and I’m doing my best to purge through emails, Facebook account, etc.  While going through some old pictures on FB I came across some mural art photos I took.  Wanted to share, enjoy.

Jessica Simpson and Billy Corgan

•January 14, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I agree- our society is more consumed with celebrities than politics and current events.  However, I do admit that I read celebrity gossip from time to time, and what the hell, it is part of our society’s pop fiber. While on SFGate today I saw this article about Jessica Simpson and Billy Corgan not only collaborating on a song but now a couple… things that make you go hmmmmm.

District 9

I just watched Distric 9 last night and I thought it was awesome.  Some Alien movies are formulaic, I like how District 9 is outside of the box having the Aliens being the oppressed species and not vice versa.  Also the parallels and social commentary in this movie are very thoughtful.  My boyfriend and I then started talking about what we would do if Aliens did come to Earth, I then told him about this Twilight Zone cautionary tale… classic.

Jhumpa Lahiri- Unaccustomed Earth

•January 6, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I used to think that I couldn’t write anything unless it was happening to me at that given time.  Since it’s the New Year I decided to disregard the manufactured “rule” I made for myself and am going to write about experiences, past and present.  This last summer I read Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri.  I first became familiar with her work when I read The NamesakeUnaccustomed Earth did not disappoint- the stories not only relate to the Indian American community but truly encompass the human experience in all its forms.  I also like how Lahiri delves into the complexity of relationships beyond the obvious.
