One of my favorite sites, Matador Travel, did a piece lately on 25 Movies To Remind You What’s Important In Life.  I didn’t agree with all of the choices, but some of my favorites on the list include Amelie, Babette’s Feast, American Beauty, Motorcycle Diaries, Rushmore and Office Space.  Some titles that are listed that I’d like to check out include: A Lesson Before Dying, Koyaanisqatsi, and Hoosiers.  Enjoy the list!

Valentine’s Day (or Single Awareness Day to some) is fast approaching and Epicurious has come up with a great Romantic Menu Planner for the culinary challenged.  Even if you’re having friends over on V-Day this planner is a fast and easy way to sort through the dillema of what to serve.

Framing Wrapping Paper

I think I’ve mentioned my little obsession with paper goods.. when I was in New York last summer I came across Kate’s Paperie.  I picked up two pieces of wrapping paper from Cavallini, a scale of Principal High Buildings of the Old World and one of Mushrooms.  I framed both pieces of wrapping paper with frames from IKEA.  Of course the effect would look more professional if it was matted, but for now I think it works just fine.  Also, the overall cost was $14 for the wrapping paper and frame.  I will post a picture of the mushroom wrapping paper soon, enjoy the one of the Principal High Buildings.

How to Make a Perfect Grilled Cheese

I loved this recent post from Apartment Therapy on How to Make a Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich Everytime.  They suggest the “brush the butter on the bread” method.  However, reading some user comments it seems as though melting the butter in the pan and dipping the bread in produces a crispier sandwich.  I like my grilled cheese sometimes with some avacado or tomato…. I’m getting hungry.

Custom Tees

Some may think custom t-shirts are a played out trend or juvenille but ever since I was a kid I’ve loved custom made t-shirts.  From my early days of iron on transfers to the more “sophisticated” ink jet iron on transfer custom t-shirts have come a long way.  Some places I love are My Trick Pony in San Francisco where I made customized Christmas presents, my favorite was the t-shirt I made for my boyfriend proving girls are evil.  Most recently I ordered a shirt for a friend who is becoming a librarian from Cafe Press.  My next custom tee I’d like to make is for myself, using the logo for Paper Street Soap Company from Fight Club.

TownHog

With the success of sites such as Groupon a new contender has entered the ring, TownHog.  Similar concept, there is a deal everyday and once the minimum amount of people sign up for the deal, everyone is granted the promotion.  What’s the deal today?  $100 worth of flowers for $45 in time for Valentine’s Day.  Not a bad site to add to the old email mailing list.

Doodads

This last Saturday I had the pleasure of breakfast at Red’s Cafe and walking around the Mission with a friend.  Despite the occasional drizzle the weather was beautiful and while thrifting and dollar store browsing I picked up the following doodads that were hard to turn down… I especially love the dollar store bank and Ladies Home Journal vintage recipe card holder (the words “Never underestimate the power of a great meal” are on the lid, I love how kitsch it is). I want to start compiling some of my favorite recipes such as Tahini Chicken Thighs I got my doodad fix for only $1.75!
