Off The Grid at Fort Mason

I had the pleasure of attending Off the Grid last Friday at Fort Mason. Every Friday from 5-8PM you can enjoy the culinary delights of Chaac Mool, Azalina’s Malaysian, El Huarache Loco, Kung Fu Tacos, Onigilly, Peko Peko Catering, Hapa SF, Soul Cocina, Chairman Bao Truck, El Porteno Empanadas, Curry Up Now, and Global Soul. The event has live music, drinks, and the ocean which makes for a great combination. We split everything and got to try a variety of things. The Chicken Tikka Massala Burrito at Curry Up Now was delicious and when I ordered it spicy it actually was which was a pleasant surprise. The vegeterian taco at Kung Fu Tacos were also not to be missed. I could easily eat a dozen of the buns from Chairman Bao, the pork belly with pickled daikon and chicken sausage and egg with hoison are addictive. For dessert, fried bananas covered in powdered sugar from Azalina’s Malaysian finished the meal. It’s free to attend, I advise sharing everything which is light on your wallet and stomach, a San Francisco event not to be missed.

The day wrapped up downtown reading in Yerba Buena Park.

Been awhile since I’ve posted!  Life has been hectic, with lots of new things happening.  I’m loving the springtime and looking forward to summer.  For my birthday (back in February) me and my boyfriend made terrariums.  The large one is in an old aquarium, I love how they turned out

Like many I’m always looking for the best travel deals. I subscribe to Travel Zoo, but I was just put on to Kayak Buzz which generates a list of the top 25 destinations from your home airport at afforable rates.  One of the deals from today was round trip to Honolulu for $340 from San Franciso. Looks like my Travel Zoo email has some competition..

Tour de Taco

Sadly, due to other plans I missed last weekend’s Tour de Taco in Oakland.  But never fear, if you’re like me and had a conflict or didn’t know about it you can do the tour on your own. The taco spots hit on the tour were:

1. El Ojo De Agua – 12th St. & Fruitvale Ave.
2. Tamales Mi Lupita – 34th Ave. & Foothill Blvd.
3. El Gordo – International & 42nd Ave.
4. Tacos Guadalajara – 10th St. & Fruitvale Ave.

Bonus hits on the tour included:

5. (Bonus) Cinco de Mayo Ice Cream – 3340 E 12th St & 33rd Ave.
6. (Bonus) The Trappist – 460 8th St (& Broadway)

Also, speaking of Mexican food, a new favorite I found on San Pablo in Berkeley is Casa Latina.. their barbacoa and carnitas tacos are awesome.  Also, their pastries are bountiful and delicious.. one of my favorites is their macaroons.

Last week’s episode of Kell on Earth explored the jegging, What Not To Wear was encouraging a young woman to buy a blacket (blouse and jacket).  Is hybrid clothes the new frontier in fashion?

Cluster Artwork Wall

I’m finally getting around to taking pictures of my home and some of the DIY projects I’ve completed.  I love the look of clustered artwork and I put together this wall mostly comprised of things I’ve collected over the years.  Here is a quick breakdown of the pieces.

Top Left: Two vinyl covers in frames I got on sale from Urban Outfitters.  They don’t have glass in them, I hope to get glass cut someday from Orchard Supply.  Below is a portrait of a lady with a green blouse drawn by my boyfriend’s seven year old sister.  The frame was a garage sale find.  The two floral pieces I picked up at Out of the Closet for $6 for the pair.

Center: The shadow box silhouette of a lady was a visual prop I got when I worked retail.  Underneath is a picture I took in high school of a Led Zeppelin lyric painted in a parking lot. The white frame has a collage I made of Andy Warhol’s Angels.

Bottom Right: Framed a piece of wallpaper from Paper Source, a Picasso poster, and a page from the book The Story of Ferdinand.

The great thing about this wall is that they are things that I find visually stimulating and interesting.  Also, the overall cost is about $30.  I highly reccomend clustering pictures and items that inspire you, it brightens my day everytime I look at it.
